Grande Prairie Seventh-day Adventist Church Mourns Loss of Pathfinder Leader Following Tragic Bus Accident
February 9, 2026
Dear Alberta Church Family,
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we write to inform you of a tragic accident involving the Grande Prairie Pathfinder Club on the evening of February 7, 2026.
While returning home from the Pathfinder Bible Experience event in Edmonton, the club’s charter bus left the roadway between Valleyview and Grande Prairie. We are heartbroken to confirm that Lillian Banda, beloved wife of Pathfinder Club Director Nathan Banda, lost her life in this devastating accident. Multiple club members and leaders sustained injuries and remain hospitalized as they receive medical care.
In the wake of this tragedy, comprehensive support is being provided for the Grande Prairie church and all those affected:
- Professional counseling services are available at the Grande Prairie church and are meeting with families, club members, and community members
- A specialized pastoral care team has been deployed to provide ongoing support and ministry
- Medical and emotional support continues to be coordinated for all affected in this tragedy
A Call for Prayer
We urgently ask our entire Alberta church family to join together in earnest prayer for:
- The grieving family who lost their loved one
- All injured club members and leaders as they recover
- The Grande Prairie church and local community
- The pastoral care team ministering during this difficult time
In times of unimaginable sorrow, we cling to God’s promise in Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Let us surround this community with prayer, compassion, and unwavering support.
With deepest sympathy,
Alberta Conference Administration
